THE CHOSEN – Ch.15 & 16 - Back Together
Do you think there's a certain ridiculousness in the way the silence was lifted between Reuven and Danny or do you think that it is just another facet of an already peculiar and discombobulated smorgasbord of relationships. Please explain (after you look up those words).

THE CHOSEN - Ch. 13 – Pain
In this chapter the four main characters - David, Reuven, Reb, and Danny - experience a great deal of pain. The pain could be physical, mental, spiritual, etc.. or a combination of any or all of the them. Detail for me the "pain" that each of the four characters is feeling.

THE CHOSEN - Ch.8 - The Question of Silence
So, in this chapter, everyone's character is developed and relationships become more complicated. Danny questions his faith, Reuven's honesty is put to the test, the gap between one father and son seems to have grown while another has intensified; but I think the real "discussion worthy" topic in this chapter is the question of "raising a child in silence." It seems that Reb and David both know what it is but are unwilling to talk about it, Danny doesn't understand it but accepts it, and Reuven neither understands nor accepts it as appropriate. What do you think it is and what purpose, based on what you know so far, do you think it is meant to serve?

THE CHOSEN - Ch. 7 – Reb
Reb Saunders is definitely what this chapter is all about. He comes out in a BIG way. He even intimidates me, and I know he is a fictional character. Focus on anything you would like to in this analysis just make sure it CENTERS AROUND REB.

THE CHOSEN - Ch. 6 - A Little Investigation
Aside from finding out JUST how brilliant Danny is, what happened to Reuven's mother, and how David Malter believes that Reuven and Danny are now "bound" together, we get a heavy dose of history in this chapter. You probably discovered more about Jews in this one chapter than you have in all of your education up to this point in your life. But this info. should have only piqued your curiosity. Let's take care of that shall we. I want each of you to do some additional research on any of the historical facts mentioned in this chapter and then share with us something we don't know. It can be anything but it CAN'T be something that someone else has already mentioned. Good luck and good hunting.

THE CHOSEN - Ch. 5 – Reuven
This is a very short chapter that is, on the surface, mostly about Reuven leaving the hospital and going home. Your job is to talk about those things that are "beneath the surface" in this chapter. In other words, Potok wrote this chapter for a reason (or reasons), what do you think it is (or they are)?

THE CHOSEN - Ch. 4 – Danny
There is so much going on in this chapter that is worth talking about. However, I want you to focus on the character of Danny. He is really "fleshed" out in this chapter. He becomes deeper and much more complicated. I want you to tell me how you feel about him at this point. Have your feelings changed? When did they change? Expand in any direction you'd like, so long as you EXPAND.

THE CHOSEN - Ch. 3 – Relationships
There are three relationships dominating this chapter (though one is merely hinted at and one is just beginning) : between David and Reuven Malter; between Danny and his father; and between Reuven and Danny. Which do you find most interesting and why?

THE CHOSEN - Ch. 2 - Characters
Which of the characters introduced in chapter 2 do you find the most interesting? In your opinion, what does this character "add" to the novel?

The Chosen - Ch.1 - The Game
Let's discuss the baseball/softball game. What is it's significance? Was it symbolic? Did Potok's description of it add or detract to its overall effect? What, if anything, did you learn about the characters and/or setting through the game?
