THE CHOSEN – Ch.15 & 16 - Back Together

Do you think there's a certain ridiculousness in the way the silence was lifted between Reuven and Danny or do you think that it is just another facet of an already peculiar and discombobulated smorgasbord of relationships. Please explain (after you look up those words).

Well, discombobulate means to confuse but smorgasbord is a Swedish sandwich/buffet? So no I don't think this is a confusing sandwich but I do feel that the silence is ridiculous. I don't really like how all of a sudden danny decides he can talk to Rueven now and you can tell Rueven is pissed still. And then Reb acts like he didn't cause anything to go wrong,David just cares about himself, and Danny didn't even respond when Rueven was telling him how painful the silence was. Sooooo Rediculous!!!!

Sorry my answer was so short my laptop at home is broken and I had to do this on my iPod.

i think its just another facet. their relationship is peculiar in the first place and them being allowed to talk just because Reb Saunders and his anti-zionist group lost on this occassion is really stupid. what if another issues comes up, are they just not going to talk again becuase of their beliefs? it is stupid. Danny should of just talked to him a long time ago to hell with his father. back on topic... their relationship if full of weird, complicated issues and the silence being lifted just added to the discombobulated (confusing) relationship. there relationship is more than about them its about their fathers. there relationship is just down right confusing. one day there friends then there not 2years later they speak once again? umm no, its not right. its dumb.i wouldnt have talked to Danny.

I think that this particular fight was so fricken stupid, I mean okay yeah, sure maybe Danny's dad did tell him to stay away from Reuven, but I mean come on would that really stop you from talking to your best friend. I mean that one person that you can tell everything to, and the one person that you know will always be there for you. I didn't like the fact that Danny chose to ignore him for those two years, and didn't even do the slightest thing to even see Reuven, that is what really made me mad overall. But Danny did seem to be as torn up about it as Reuven was, as you could hear by the way his appearance was turning out to be. I just felt so sorry for Reuven who had no control over what his father does or what campaigns and movements he's in charge of. And he had to pay for it by Reb Saunders. I don't like that guy either. He has to be least favorite person in the whole story. But to, finally get to the real answer of the question. I don't like the way Danny just decided to go up and start talking to Reuven after all that time, I mean what the heck was that all about. What was the sudden reason for that, he didn't make any special effort before so who is he starting now. He didn't even give Danny a good explanation about the whole thing either. But I don't think that this was just a discombobulate smorgasbord, which means a confusing, ridiculous, upset swedish sandwhich or buffet, pretty much what John Reynolds said :p.

Well, like John and Jackie said it is super ridiculous that they are talking again, after two years. I mean all of a sudden he just comes up to him and asks for help with his graphs. I mean what is that all about???! But in a way i sort of also think that this is a discombobulate way of potok, just trying to confuse us. I thought it was just so weird that after two years of completely ignoring eachother, it's crazy. And it's totally true how Reb doesn't even mention anything about Zionism and even though David is sick, a little still, he still doesn't really care, he sort of just cares for himself and of zionism and everything else he cares about! Danny and Reuven both acted really weird in this chapter, because Danny still didn't want to pay any attention about the SIlENCE between him and his father.

But anyways it, it was just ridiculous how they all of a sudden started talking at the end of that chapter.

BTW, John smorgasbord doesn't only mean a Swedish sandwich, it also means something of VARIETY! just wanted to clear that out for you! jk-but that was funny!

yup yup. (it's ridiculous) it's dumb. real dumb. it wasn't even danny's will to end the friendship between them. he knew there would be consequences if they spoke, so he didn't risk anything. i would have never let my father..or anyone else, for that matter..get in the way of my friendship with someone.!
it's pretty darn lame how after so long danny and his father can put everything behind them and go on as if nothing happened..

ugh! danny just needs to grow a pair and tell his dad how it is!!!!
:0

haha :]

Yeah, its just another confusing element to the many relationships. I wasn't too surprised by how it happend. I don't think them beginning to talk would've happend any other way. Danny had to act casual, it wasn't necessarily his fault that he couldn't talk to Reuven. He respects his father too much in order to go against him. However, most of why he respects his father is fear. All the anti-zionsim had to blow over in order for Reb to cool off. Reb's really starting to annoy me. He acted like nothing happend over the last TWO YEARS!!!! Talk about akward, they're conversation was so short. Plus what's up with him inviting him back all of a sudden after he gets all upset. He banned him from Danny and Reuven doesn't study the Talmud the traditional way and he has different beliefs than Reb and now all of the sudden he wants to be buddy buddy good friends after he loses the anti-zionism thing. Oh yeah and what if what Jackie says happens and another issue comes up? Is it gonna be the same repeat? They're all ready a strange tangled emotional relationship...with all the main characters in this story. Its ridiculous. (wow, i think i wrote a book. I went into a tangent at times. *sorry*)

To tell the truth, I really don't think it was unusual how the silence was lifted. The whole reason behind the silence was that Reb did not believe in a Jewish state, but once the state was created there was no reason behind the silence. I believe that how Danny aproached the end of the silence (walikng up and asking for help with his math) was a grand end to the silence. It was so anti-climatic. I really don't see how Reuven could be mad at Danny for the silence; just because there were no words exchanged between them for two years does not mean that they were not communicating. The book even talks about how they communicated through their eyes/nods of their heads/gestures of their hands.
Going on, I can't really see how Danny and Reuven's relationship can be called a "smorgasbord", since it is only one relationship! It is a little peculiar, but understandably so (take a look at their fathers(and their father's differences)).

okay well i definitely agree with Elena BIG TIME on this one where Danny needs to grow some balls and just tell his father how he feels. obviously he hates how they dont talk and he wishes that they could so he needs to man up and just tell him. Rabbi or not. and i didnt need to look those words up actually because i know what those words mean. "pretty amazing huh?" okay well that whole seen with Danny just randomly coming up to Reuven and start talking was a little ridiculous to me. At first i thought it was weird because he just started talking to him. I was like, "okay, so theyre talking again. must not have been that long." but when it said that they hadnt talked for 2 years, i thought it was stupid. no body does that. you dont just randomly go up to a previous friend of yours who you havent talked to in 2 years and just start talking. I got pissed how Reuven was there to help Danny and his fathers silence but Danny didnt even care when Reuven told him that it was happening between him and his father. I also hated how Rabbi Reb. "that his nickname now." basically acted like nothing happened within those 2 years. HE'S A RETARD. basically, it was a good 2 chapters but it made me mad.

Ok i have to agree with most of you guys that this relationship is really down right confusing because one minute their friends and the next they stop talking because of the their religious beliefs. Then two years later they start talking again like nothing just because Reb Saunders and his group that he made up of anti-Zionist lost then because of this they start talking. I feel like this really dumb because what if something else comes up in the near future causing them not to talk again. This reminds me of a relationship between a boyfriend and girlfriend who are just breaking up and getting back together like nothing. I got really mad also because here in this chapters Reuven is trying to open up himself to Danny about the pain he feels about everything and he doesn't even say anything. THIS IS SO STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it was just another facet of their crazy relationships. It was pretty obvious that their relationship had to change with both of their fathers taking opposite sides on Zionism. This came with the silence, which also eventually had to be resolved. They couldn't have actually talked to each other because then they would lose each other completely, so they chose the lesser of two evils. It made sense that when the conflict between their fathers was resolved, they resumed their relationship. I dont think that it was ridiculous at all the way that Danny broke the silence. It showed that despite conflicts with their fathers and their differing viewpoints, they were still and would be friends. They did have some hard feelings and resentment to get over, but these were small matters compared to their camaraderie. They just kinda jumped back into their friendship with each other, which is the way that it should have been because of the kind of friendship that they had.
